Jadeja reaches top spot in ICC Test Rankings for bowlers

Ravindra Jadeja has reached the top spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings for bowlers following his six-wicket haul in the first innings of the Bengaluru Test against Australia, the International Cricket Council announced on Wednesday (March 8). He jointly shares the position with his spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin, who too had bagged a six-wicket haul in the second innings.

Jadeja's seven wickets in the match, which included a crucial 6 for 63 in the first innings, helped him move up one rank to reach the top position for the first time in his career. 

The duo has become the first spin pair to jointly hold the top spot in the ICC Rankings. The last time two bowlers shared the top spot was in April 2008 when Dale Steyn and Muttiah Muralitharan shared the coveted spot.

UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid through to quarter-finals

Sergio Ramos headed an equaliser and created an own goal to set Real Madrid on the way to a 3-1 win at Napoli on Tuesday which took the title-holders into the Champions League quarter-finals after they had taken a first-half battering.

The Serie A side, trailing 3-1 from the first leg of the round of 16 tie, looked more than capable of overturning the deficit as they dominated the first half and took the lead through Dries Mertens in the 24th minute.

But Napoli’s hopes of a first quarter-final appearance effectively ended when defender Ramos, who has made a habit of rescuing his team, headed in from a corner in the 51st minute.

Kohli lashes out at Smith's DRS 'brain fade'

India captain Virat Kohli stopped just short of calling the Australians cheaters in an explosive press conference following India's remarkable 75-run win in Bengaluru.

Tensions boiled and threatened to spill over when Australian captain Steve Smith sought help from the dressing room with regards to taking a review after he was struck on the pads and given out to Umesh Yadav while on 28. 

Smith said that the whole incident was a 'brain fade' on his behalf as he looked towards the dressing room after he was given out. Smith turned to the dressing room after his batting partner Peter Hands comb motioned towards the pavilion. Smith added that 'he shouldn't have done that.' 

Ashwin spins India to series-levelling win

Kapil Dev is not amused in the Press Box. An Aussie commentator on air defends Steve Smith. Virat Kohli is livid with the Australians for what he deemed unethical cricket. The umpires had to intervene, send the batsman on his way and calm the Indians.

At one point on day four of the Bengaluru Test, the tension threatened to spill over. In Nigel Llong and Richard Illingworth, however, there were two experienced umpires who diffused the situation effectively and let the focus stay on one of the most amazing Test matches in recent times. 

That point turned out to be the one that swayed the game India's way. They eventually won the contest by 75 runs and levelled the series 1-1. 

কুশল-গুনারত্নের ব্যাটিংয়ে প্রথম দিন শ্রীলঙ্কার

কুশল মেন্ডিসের দুর্দান্ত শতক ও আসেলা গুনারাত্নের ৮৫ রানে গল টেস্টের প্রথম দিন শেষে ৪ উইকেট হারিয়ে ৩২১ রান করেছে শ্রীলঙ্কা। মঙ্গলবার গলের নিখাদ ব্যাটিং উইকেটে বাংলাদেশের বোলারদের ভালোই ভুগিয়ে চতুর্থ উইকেটে ১৯৬ রানের জুটি করেন এই দুই জন।

 

 

প্রথম দিনের ৮৮ ওভারের খেলা শেষে ১৬৬ রানে অপরাজিত থেকে প্যাভিলিয়নে ফিরেছেন কুশল, তার সঙ্গে ১৪ রানে অপরাজিত আছেন নিরোশান ডিকভেলা। শ্রীলঙ্কার চার উইকেট নিয়েছেন মুস্তাফিজুর রহমান, তাসকিন আহমেদ, শুভাশিস রায় ও মেহেদি হাসান মিরাজ।

অশ্বিনের হাত ধরে ব্যাঙ্গালুরু টেস্ট জিতল ভারত

বিশ্বসেরা অফ-স্পিনার রবিচন্দ্রন অশ্বিনের হাত ধরে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিপক্ষে ব্যাঙ্গালুরু টেস্ট চতুর্থ দিনেই জিতে নিলো স্বাগতিক ভারত। দ্বিতীয় ইনিংসে অশ্বিনের ৬ উইকেট শিকারে সিরিজের দ্বিতীয় টেস্ট ৭৫ রানে জিতল টিম ইন্ডিয়া। ফলে চার ম্যাচের টেস্ট সিরিজে ১-১ সমতা আনল ভারত। 

 

নিজেদের দ্বিতীয় ইনিংসে তৃতীয় দিন শেষে ৬ উইকেট হাতে নিয়ে ১২৬ রানে এগিয়ে ছিলো ভারত। দলীয় স্কোর ছিলো ৪ উইকেটে ২১৩ রান। তবে চতুর্থ দিন লিডটাকে খুব বেশি বড় করতে পারেনি টিম ইন্ডিয়া। পেসার জশ হ্যাজেলউডের বোলিং তোপে ২৭৪ রানেই গুটিয়ে যায় স্বাগতিকরা। ফলে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার সামনে ১৮৮ রানের টার্গেট দাড় করায় ভারত।
