Peshawar Zalmi beat Quetta Gladiators to win Pakistan Super League 2017

Peshawar Zalmi capitalised on an early batting collapse by Quetta Gladiators to secure a 58-run victory in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final on Sunday. In the first-ever PSL match to be played in Pakistan due to lingering security fears in the South Asian nation, the Gladiators were left floundering at 13 for three wickets in the fifth over and never managed to recover from the setback as they were all out for 90. Kamran Akmal notched up 40 runs while West Indian Twenty20 World Cup winner Darren Sammy scored a quickfire 28 not out in Zalmi’s total of 148-6. The run up to the final was dominated by security issues after a wave of bombings by Islamist militants left more than 130 people dead last month, prompting calls for the final, like the rest of the series, to be played in United Arab Emirates.

Darren Sammy, who lead Peshawar Zalmi to the title in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League in the final held in Lahore, said the decision to travel to Pakistan was for a good cause. A number of overseas players pulled out after it was announced that the final will be played in Lahore but Sammy along with David Malan, Chris Jordan, Anamul Haque, Marlon Samuels, Morne van Vyk travelled to play.

"When you have not been in a place you always have your doubts," Sammy said on Sunday (March 4) after leading his team to the title. You get different views, different opinions. But I spoke to Javed [Afridi, the Peshawar team owner] and Shahid Afridi and they influenced my decision to come here. All the boys just made the decision that we are part of something that we are coming down here for a good cause. The fans here deserve to see their players playing as they haven't seen it for quite a while. I am glad I came here. 

Rising Pune Supergiant acquire Shardul Thakur

Rising Pune Supergiant have added Shardul Thakur to their line-up for the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League, it was revealed on Monday (March 6). Thakur has played just one game in the tournament when he represented Kings XI Punjab in the game against Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla in 2015.

In the game against Daredevils, he gave away 38 runs from his three overs for a wicket. Thakur was part of the Punjab set-up last season as well but was asked to leave the tournament mid-way after their campaign went pear shaped.
